Abstract

This paper presents the treatment of colorectal carcinoma at the Department of Surgery of the General Hospital Vinkovci in the period between 1996 and 2005. In the 10-year period 398 patients were treated, most operations were done on rectum and sigma. Eighty-eight (22%) patients developed complications which occurred twice as often in men than in women. The results imply the need for constant improvement of surgical techniques and need for consideration of the introduction of laparoscopic operative techniques in the treatment of colorectal carcinoma.
